Croquet Tournament Winners 2017

Winners of the Snake in the Grass Tournament 2017

Thanks to everyone who came out on such a gorgeous fall day to VLBC to indulge in croquet craftiness and cunning.

Congratulations to Donna  and Keir, Top Gun Vipers, on their first place win in the Snake in the Grass tournament. Of mention, Keir also had a deuce.

Slithering into second place after a playoff against Chris and Becky  were Pierre Dunn and Jo Ann . In another venomous playoff, Lorne and Bob came in third over Peter and Kathy.
The losers in points, but winners in having had the most fun, Kathryn and Hilary took on the winners for a post tournament game and half the entire game was played with the 4 vipers battling for hoop one with Donna and Keir soon overcoming the odds.
Our top players were charmed out of the basket to play a display Snake Dance with Chris and Lorne taking on  Peter and Pierre, giving  the other snakes in the pit a chance to ooo and aah at the graceful dexterity and cunning of those more experienced.  Pierre and Peter came in first 7 to 5.
Also, best costume has to go to Keir as you can see below, with his partner having the most Ingenious Accoutrement snake neck coil, complete with a gorgeous snaked tongue and bells.

The potluck lunch was also excellent. A big thank you to Anne Novak from the lawn bowling section of the club who kindly volunteered to help in the kitchen.

The Victoria Day Association Croquet Tournament went quite well this weekend, with 10 excellent players from around the Northwest vying for top honors.  The championship went to Steve Scalpone of Portland, Oregon, who won a very tight final with Victoria’s Michael Dowling by coming from behind to finish 22-21 in his last turn.

The event had a significant effect on Canadian rankings.  Graham Garlick had not played enough games in the twelve months before the tournament to be listed in the rankings, but is now listed at #3 in Canada.  Victoria’s Chris Percival-Smith, unable to play in the event, remains at #5.  Brian Wasylyk of Campbell River moved up to #9 while Pierre dropped out of the top ten to #11.  Michael Dowling moved up to #13 in Canada with results that brought his DGrade to 1606, breaking the 1600 barrier for the first time.  Congratulations to all.
