Laguna Beach Visitors

One of the perks of membership in a lawn bowling club is reciprocal privileges with other clubs around the world.     Randy and Ginger Hatfield of Laguna Beach, California took advantage of that opportunity on their brief Victoria stopover on a cruise from Alaska to Seattle.

Club members JoAnn, Cathy, Barb and Janet met the Hatfields Friday evening for a pre-arranged game of bowls. The laughter-filled triples game in the cool, evening shadows ended in a tie.

Bowling was only half the fun. Jo Ann and Randy—both webmasters and club historians—had lots to share about their respective clubs (see Laguna Beach Lawn Bowling Club). The club was originally started to entice Canadians to Laguna Beach for the winters. In 1975, twenty five bowlers from their club visited our club. Their membership now exceeds 300 bowlers.

Here’s a link to a 1940’s film showing lawn bowling on their greens. (only the first 2:50 minutes). Talk about vintage film!

Randy was involved with singing, dance and the theatre but has chosen to do  other things now. Ginger is still performing and is an excellent Big Band singer with a lovely voice. Check out her videos.

It is always a pleasure to meet and feel a kinship with enthusiastic fellow bowlers from faraway places.
