Lessons Bowls and Croquet

During the three weeks between the April 7/8 Open House and our official Opening Day on April 28th, the greens have been abuzz with the activity of lessons in both lawn bowling and croquet.

This year’s head coach Ralph Huston reports that 25 players signed up for the set-of-3 lawn bowling lessons. To date, 20 of those completed lessons and have become new members.

A huge note of appreciation goes to Ralph Huston for spearheading the 3-week coaching sessions. Ralph not only co-ordinated the playing times/dates of small groups of trainees with coaches but oversaw each 3-times-a-week session to provide support. Thank you also goes to this year’s coaches: George Gibson, Angelina Flath, Bill Huot, Randy Small, Chris Jones and Cathy Korpela, and to helpers Elaine Huber and Barb Marriott.  For more on appreciation of our coaches, follow this link: Volunteers.

VLBC vice-president Kathy Moi—who plays both sports—reports that 20 newcomers participated in croquet lessons and a large percentage have also become members of our club.

This is a great start to a new season. We hope to see all the new members out on the greens at our afternoon draws, league play and tournaments or playing croquet.
